11 days and counting!

Well today was an exciting day.  We received the call saying that handover has been booked in for Friday December 11.  This is right on (our) schedule, so in 11 days we’ll have the keys to our new home!

I spent a bit of time on the phone today booking in fences, blind and shutter installation and a cat door for Hamish.  We’ve also found a landscaper we like and we’re meeting him on the weekend to finalise the plans and book everything in.  Before we move in we’ll have the driveway and fences done.  We should also have a good start on the landscaping before Christmas.  Tomorrow I’ll be onto the water tank people to get that sorted.

Removalists were booked last week for the 19th.  Now we just have to tackle the packing here!!!

We’ve also got some photos we took the other day to put up so stay tuned for them!

We own land!!!

Well its official.  We’re land owners.  We settled on our land today which was the final step needed before building can commence.  I’d like to say it was smooth and stress free, but it wasn’t.  We received an email from the solicitors this morning informing us how much money they needed today to settle.  I almost had a heart attack as it was several times more then expected!  After many phone call by me, our solicitor and the mortgage broker it turns out the bank completely forgot to take into account the deposit we’ve already paid.

One of the forms we signed last week was an authority for the bank to take the balance of the money required for settlement out of my account.  For some reason they they didn’t have the form (interesting seeing as we’ve completed and signed that and several other documents twice now) so I  had to run to the bank and get 3 bank cheques and drop them off to the solicitor.  Should I invoice the bank for $30 in cheque costs plus time???  I think I should.

BUT, now that’s all over with we can relish in the fact that we own a piece of land and can somewhat relax for the next few weeks until the build starts….  Stay tuned, the ride is just beginning!

Many years of debt!

Well we signed and delivered our final mortgage documents today.  Settlement for the land is still on track for Monday!

I also had to drop off some paperwork to Porter Davis today and had a chat with our administrator.  Our current official start date is the 28th August .  They are going to push for an earlier start seeing that our file is complete (28th July would be fab!).  Fingers crossed!

Land Title - TICK!

We just received notification from our solicitor that our land has finally titled and settlement is set for Monday 20th July - thats next week!!!

Everyone is now putting some pressure on Bank West to get their act together, produce the final mortgage documents, get them sent out and be ready for the big day!

Next step - lock in a build start date, hopefully within the next month…

The waiting game

You may be wondering why we haven’t posted for a little while. Well the answer is simple. We’re playing the waiting waiting waiting game. The things we’re waiting for are (in order):

  1. Land to title (about 3 weeks)
  2. Final mortgage documents to sign (the bank won’t issue them till the land titles)
  3. Settle on the land (mortgage payments start!!!)
  4. Get start date
  5. Start building!

With a bit of luck all will happen quickly, especially the land settlement! We may have to put a rocket up BankWest for that…

Oh, and we’re STILL waiting for PD to get back to us with our contract variations.  Its been 5 1/2 weeks since we signed the construction contract.  Seriously, does it really take that long???  grrrrrr!!!!!
